Complete Recording of 14th Connect.Euranet debate on investing in youth for the future of Europe
On the eve of the European Council, Euranet and the European Youth Forum engaged Androulla Vassiliou, the Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Multilinguism, in a “Connecting U and the EU” debate with young journalists and youth leaders on the need for Europe to invest in its youth.
The debate focused on two separate aspects: Democracy - investing in youth by promoting democracy and participation. And the economy: Investing in youth as a resource for the continent. Young journalists and youth leaders - as well as the general public through the social media - from all across the EU got answers from Commissioner Vassiliou on the EU's plans for investing in youth, promoting democracy and increasing participation, with an emphasis on the 2014 European Parliament elections.
The panel included three students from Euranet’s network of campus radio stations: Mara Rusu from UBB Cluj (Romania), Karolina Werens from Radio Kampus Warsaw (Poland) and Maarit Alkula from the University of Tampere (Finland). The European Youth Forum representatives were Tomas Maes, Secretary General European Young Socialists, Tom Vandenkenelaere, Youth of the European People’s Party, Rein Meus, Secretary General, Don Bosco Youth Network, and Peter Matjasic, President of the European Youth Forum. A professional journalist from Euranet, Gigi Donelli from Radio 24 (Italy), completed the line-up, together with Euranet's moderator Méabh McMahon.
